We've won the Fight for Flash.

Updated: Dec 7, 2018

Today (World Diabetes Day) the NHS has announced that the FreeStyle Libre will be prescribed to everyone with Type 1 Diabetes who qualifies for the technology from April 2019.

The FreeStyle Libre now available on prescriptoin across all of England.

The flash glucose monitor became available on the NHS from November last year subject to local health decision by CCG's (Clinical Commissioning Group). But only two out of three CCG's across England funded this treatment, meaning people in some areas either had to self fund or go without.

The flash glucose monitor is going to be available to everyone on prescription as long as they pass the NHS guidelines which are yet to come out.

There is a set list of criteria which diabetics will still have to pass in order to be prescribed the FreeStyle Libre.

Video explaining the criteria set out by the NHS:
